Yate Town Council

Yate Town Council, The first statutory meeting of Yate Parish Council was held in the National School Room on 31 December 1894.  The Chairman was John Bond, a farmer of Thorns Farm.

From 8 December 1977, the name of the Yate Parish Council became Yate Town Council.

First Mayor of Yate

At the Annual Town Council Meeting held on 18 May 1993, Councillor Chris Willmore became the first ever Mayor of Yate. She was welcomed to the post by five former chairmen of the Town Council. The Town Council agreed to adopt the mayoral title for its leader rather than use the term Chairperson in September 1992, the reason being to give people pride in their town.
