July 2008 Echos from the Front Line A book about Life in The Trenches by Jackie Ashman will be launched at 10a.m on Friday 4th July in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall. Saturday, July 12 Yate heritage centre will celebrate cultures, arts and cuisine. The centre will play host to a variety of international performers and demonstrators.(10am-5.30pm) Local groups will also be recognised as Yate Choral Society, Chipping Sodbury Community Choir and the Brimsham Green School Orchestra take to the stage. Chantry Community Association in Thornbury, Open Day on Sat 12th July The community building regularly holds classes and workshops for adults and also for youth groups. We will be having an open day on Sat 12th July from 10.00 until 4.00 pm. This will be an opportunity for everybody to find out about the exciting activities that take place at the Chantry all year around. Refreshments will also be available. The South CotswoldBeer Festival Fri 11th - Sat 12th July Now in its 13th year this years festival will be the biggest yet. August August 11th -15th Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club will be playing host to a team of professional coaches from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. The coaches will be running courses aimed at players of all abilities.The course run for five days, starting at 9.30 each morning and finishing at 3.15pm. CHIPPING SODBURY MUSIC SOCIETY 2008/09 SEASON Tickets will be available on the Door - for season tickets contact the membership secretary on 01454 312561 All these concerts will be in the Town Hall at 7:30 pm on Tuesdays on the following dates: 14 October 2008 – The Ardeton String Quartet We start our season with a young and vibrant ensemble, based in Bristol and Bath, playing Haydn, Dvorak and Schubert. 11 November 2008 – Judith Sheridan, soprano and Craig Combs, piano A once local lady offering a repertoire to include Nuits d’Été by Berlioz, a selection of Spanish songs by Mompou and others by South American composers and more. 6 January 2009 – Ian Clarke, flute and Tim Carey, piano An evening not to be missed with the duo playing the famous Poulenc Sonata, Massenet Meditation from Thais, Orange Dawn, The Great Train Race and more beautiful pieces. 10 February 2009 – The London Bridge Ensemble The London Bridge Ensemble will be playing three breathtakingly beautiful quartets by Bridge, Mozart and Brahms. 10 March 2009 – The Peter Rees Wind Trio This wind trio from Bath (oboe, clarinet and bassoon) will be playing a selection of music, including works by Mozart, Ibert, Gershwin and Scott Joplin. 14 April 2009 –James Turnbull, oboe/cor anglais and Craig White, piano Another highly talented duo from The Countess of Munster Musical Trust playing a selection of works by Schumann, Nielsen, Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Mendelssohn. 12 May 2009 – The London Schubert Players This quintet of exceptionally talented young players will be performing Luminita Spinu, Dvorak and Schubert.
